How to crop a PDF online and trim its margins

Enter how many millimetres to trim from the top, bottom, left and right. Each edge has its own value from 0 to 200, and all four start at 10. Leave the Pages field empty to crop the whole document, or list pages such as 1, 4-6 to crop only those.

Cropping changes the visible frame of each page. The tool moves both boxes that define the page edge, the one viewers use and the one printers use, so the new size is the same everywhere. Content outside the new frame is hidden, not erased. It is still stored in the file and can be brought back with an editor, which also means the file size barely changes.

You can add several PDFs and they will all be cropped with the same numbers. Every file is handled by your browser and saved with "_cropped" in its name. No copy of your document is uploaded or stored anywhere.

Crop PDF problems: what goes wrong and how to fix it

You need to remove private details, not just hide them

Cropping keeps the hidden part inside the file, so it is not safe for account numbers, addresses or anything confidential. To really cut something away, convert the page with PDF to JPG, crop the image in any photo editor, and turn it back into a PDF with JPG to PDF. The removed area is then gone for good.

The tool says the page would be too small

The values you entered add up to almost the full width or height of the page. Check that you typed millimetres and not a larger unit, then lower the numbers. Opposite edges together must leave some of the page standing.

The wrong edge got trimmed on a sideways page

Some PDFs store a page upright and only display it turned. Cropping measures from the page as stored, so "top" may end up being a side edge. Try a small value on one page first, look at the result, then adjust which field you use.

Book scans have wider margins on alternating pages

Left and right pages of a scanned book are often shifted in opposite directions. Crop in two passes: first list the odd pages in the Pages field with one set of values, then run the result again with the even pages and the mirrored values.

Crop PDF vs Resize PDF

Crop cuts edges away and the page becomes smaller by exactly that amount. The content is not scaled, it just loses what was outside the new frame.

Resize keeps the whole page and scales it to fit a standard sheet like A4 or Letter. Nothing is hidden, but text may get slightly smaller or larger.

They also work well together. Crop off wide white borders first, then resize so the remaining content fills the new sheet.

Questions

Is the cropped content deleted?

It is hidden outside the new page edges. Most people will never see it, but it is still inside the file. Do not rely on cropping to remove sensitive information.

Can I crop different amounts on each side?

Yes. Top, right, bottom and left each have their own value in millimetres.

How do I crop a PDF to A4 size?

Crop trims by the amounts you enter, so the result is rarely an exact paper size. To end up with A4 pages, crop first if needed and then run the file through Resize PDF with A4 selected.

Can I crop just one page of a PDF?

Yes. Type that page number in the Pages field. Every other page keeps its original size.

Does cropping a PDF reduce the file size?

Not noticeably. The hidden part is still stored in the file. To make the file smaller, use Compress PDF.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. The tool runs in your browser and the files never leave your device. Close the tab and nothing is left behind.
