How to resize PDF pages to A4, Letter, A3 or A5 online
Pick the target paper size and, if you like, a margin between 0 and 50 mm. Every page is then scaled until it fits inside that sheet, keeping its proportions, and centred. Portrait pages land on a portrait sheet and landscape pages on a landscape one, so a wide table does not end up squeezed onto an upright page.
Behind the scenes each original page is placed whole onto a new, empty sheet. That is what keeps the look intact: text stays text and can still be selected, and vector drawings stay crisp. The trade-off is that interactive parts do not survive. Links and form fields are dropped, and the new file does not carry over bookmarks or the old title and author.
Scaling works in both directions. Going from A5 to A4 enlarges everything, which is fine for text and line art. Scanned pages are pictures, though, so making them bigger does not add detail and they may look a little softer. The file is processed in your browser and saved with the chosen size, for example "_a4", in its name.
Resize PDF page size: common problems and fixes
White bands appear above and below the content
The original page and the new sheet have different proportions. Letter is a bit wider and shorter than A4, so a Letter page on A4 leaves strips at the top and bottom. That space is the price of not stretching anything. If the bands bother you, set the margin to 0 so the content is as large as possible.
The content looks small in the middle of the page
The original probably has wide white margins of its own, and they get scaled along with the content. Trim them first with Crop PDF, then resize. The useful part of the page will then fill much more of the new sheet.
The form has to stay fillable
Resizing drops form fields, so a blank form would lose its boxes. If you only need it to print on different paper, keep the PDF as it is and use the "Fit to page" or "Scale to fit" option in your print dialog instead.
Resize PDF vs "Fit to page" when printing
The print dialog option scales pages only for that one print job. The file itself does not change, so the next person who prints it faces the same problem.
Resizing changes the file, so every page really is A4 or Letter from then on. Choose it when you send the PDF to a print shop, upload it to a portal that checks page size, or merge documents that should all match.
Questions
Will links and form fields still work?
No. Each page is placed on a new sheet as a whole, which keeps how it looks but drops clickable links and fillable fields. Flatten forms first if you need the filled values.
Is the content stretched?
Never. The page keeps its proportions and is scaled until it fits, with any leftover space split evenly around it.
How do I change a PDF from A4 to US Letter?
Choose US Letter as the new size and run the tool. A4 is slightly taller and narrower than Letter, so the content shrinks a little and narrow strips are left at the sides.
Can I enter a custom page size?
Not at the moment. You can choose between A4, US Letter, A3 and A5, plus a margin in millimetres.
Does resizing a PDF change its file size?
Usually not by much. Page content is reused rather than redrawn as images, so the file tends to stay close to the original size.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. The tool runs in your browser and the files never leave your device. Close the tab and nothing is left behind.
