iPhones save photos as HEIC to save space. Windows, many websites and older apps can't open them. This converter turns them into regular JPG files, right in your browser, so your photos are never uploaded anywhere.

How to convert HEIC to JPG on Windows, Mac or Android
Since iOS 11, iPhones save photos as HEIC by default. The format keeps good quality in a small file, but outside Apple devices it often shows up as an unknown file. This page turns those photos into ordinary JPGs. It works the same on a Windows PC, a Mac, a Chromebook or an Android phone, because all it needs is a browser.
Most browsers cannot read HEIC by themselves, so the page loads a decoder built on libheif, the open-source HEIC library, the first time you add a file. It unpacks the HEIC into plain pixels, then your browser saves them as JPG at the quality you set, 85 percent unless you change it. All of this runs on your device. Your camera roll is not uploaded, which is the main reason to prefer this over a converter that sends files to a server.
You can add a whole batch from a USB transfer, AirDrop folder or email. Each photo keeps its file name with .jpg at the end, so IMG_4021.HEIC becomes IMG_4021.jpg. Decoding HEIC is heavy work for a browser, so a large batch takes longer than converting the same number of JPGs or PNGs. A progress bar shows how far along it is.
HEIC to JPG not working? Common causes and fixes
The file is rejected or the conversion fails
Some apps rename files without changing what is inside, so a file called .heic may already be a JPG. Try renaming the extension to .jpg and opening it. If it opens, no conversion is needed. A file that was cut short during transfer will also fail. Copy it again from the phone.
A Live Photo lost its movement
A Live Photo is a HEIC still plus a separate short video. Only the still is converted. If you want the motion, export the video part from the Photos app on the iPhone or Mac.
Converting is slow on my phone or old laptop
HEIC decoding in a browser uses a lot of memory. Convert in smaller groups of 20 or 30 photos, close other heavy tabs and keep the page open until the ZIP is ready. Desktop browsers usually manage large batches better than phones.
Photos sent by email or WhatsApp are already JPG
iPhones often convert HEIC to JPG automatically when sharing to apps that do not support it. If you got the files that way, you probably do not need this tool. It is most useful for files copied by cable, AirDrop or from iCloud downloads.
HEIC vs JPG: what you gain and lose by converting
HEIC uses a newer compression method than JPG, so it stores a photo of the same quality in a noticeably smaller file. It can also hold several images in one file, such as bursts. The downside is support: many Windows apps, web forms and photo kiosks still do not accept it.
JPG files are larger but open everywhere without extra software. Converting does not improve the picture. It just makes it usable in more places. Keep the original HEIC files if you want the smallest archive and the full original data.
Questions
Why can't I open HEIC files on Windows?
Windows needs an extra codec for HEIC that is not always installed. JPG works everywhere without it.
Are the date and location kept?
No. The JPG is drawn fresh from the photo, so EXIF data such as the date taken and GPS location is left out. Handy when sharing, less so for photo albums sorted by date.
Can I convert HEIC to PNG instead of JPG?
Yes. Use the Image Converter and choose PNG. That keeps the picture lossless, but the files will be several times bigger than JPG.
What happens to a HEIC file that contains several images?
Only the first image in the file is converted. This mainly affects burst shots and some edited photos that store more than one picture.
Do I need to install HEIF extensions on Windows to use this?
No. Decoding happens inside the web page, so it works on any Windows PC with a modern browser, with or without Microsoft's HEIF extension.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. The tool runs in your browser and the files never leave your device. Close the tab and nothing is left behind.
