How to convert WEBP to JPG so it opens anywhere

WEBP is a format created by Google to make web pages lighter. That is why the picture you right-click and save from a shop, news site or Google Images often ends up as a .webp file. Browsers show it without trouble, but older photo editors, some print services and plenty of upload forms still ask for JPG.

Add the WEBP files here and press Convert. Your browser decodes each one, puts it on a white background and saves a JPG at the quality you pick, 85 percent by default. The width and height do not change. The images never leave your device, and the converted files keep their original names with .jpg at the end.

WEBP can hold things JPG cannot. Transparent areas become white, because JPG has no transparency. Animated WEBP files, which are common for stickers and short loops, are saved as a still picture of the first frame. For regular photos neither of these matters and the JPG looks the same as the WEBP did.

WEBP to JPG problems and how to solve them

The JPG is small and blurry

Converting keeps the pixels you have. Many websites serve a reduced copy of an image depending on your screen, so the WEBP you saved may only be 600 px wide. Open the image in its own tab or look for a larger version on the page before saving, then convert that one.

A sticker or logo now has a white box around it

The original had a transparent background. JPG fills it with white. If you need to keep the transparency, use the Image Converter with PNG as the output instead.

The file ends in .jpg but still will not open

Some downloads are WEBP files that were given a .jpg name. Programs that check the content, not the name, refuse them. Run it through the Image Converter with JPG as the output. It takes the file by its .jpg name, then the browser reads the real content and writes a genuine JPG.

An older version of Photoshop or Word rejects the image

Support for WEBP arrived late in many desktop programs. Photoshop, for example, only opened WEBP natively from 2022. Converting to JPG is the quickest fix and avoids installing plugins.

WEBP vs JPG: which one to keep

WEBP gives smaller files at similar quality and supports transparency and animation. It is the better choice for images you publish on your own website.

JPG is the safe choice for anything that leaves the browser: printing, attaching to documents, sending to older phones, uploading to government or job portals. If you are not sure where an image will end up, JPG is the format that works everywhere.

Questions

Which quality setting should I use?

85 to 90 percent looks the same as the original for most photos and saves a lot of space. Go lower only if the file must be very small.

Why do websites use WEBP?

WEBP files are smaller than JPG at similar quality, so pages load faster. Support outside browsers is still patchy, which is why converting helps.

Can I stop my browser from saving images as WEBP?

Not really. The website decides which format it sends, and the browser saves what it received. Converting afterwards is the simplest way around it.

Can I convert WhatsApp or Telegram stickers from WEBP to JPG?

Yes. Still stickers convert normally, with white in place of the transparent background. Animated stickers give you a still image of their first frame.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. The tool runs in your browser and the files never leave your device. Close the tab and nothing is left behind.
