How to add a watermark to a PDF without uploading it
Type the words you want across the pages, then choose a diagonal or horizontal layout. The text is placed as one line in the middle of every page. Size runs from 16 to 140 pt, opacity from 5 to 100 percent, and you can pick red, grey, blue or black.
You can drop in several PDFs at once. Each file gets its own watermarked copy with "_watermarked" added to the name, all with the same text and settings. Accented letters work, so "Tylko do wglądu" or "Copie réservée à l'agence" comes out exactly as typed.
Watermarks are often used on the most private papers you own: ID cards, payslips, bank statements. That is why it matters that the file is processed by your own browser and never sent to a server. Close the tab and nothing is left behind anywhere else.
PDF watermark problems and how to fix them
The watermark runs off the edge of the page
The text stays on one line and is not shrunk to fit. A long sentence at a large size will spill past the edges. Shorten the wording, lower the font size, or switch to diagonal, which gives a portrait page more room because the corner-to-corner line is longer than the width.
The text underneath is hard to read
The watermark is laid over the page content, so at high opacity it covers what is below. Lower the opacity until a small paragraph under the watermark reads without effort. Grey disturbs reading less than red at the same opacity.
The watermark disappears when printed
Light grey at a low opacity can look fine on screen and vanish on an office printer. Print one test page. If the mark is too faint, raise the opacity or switch to black or blue.
Each recipient should get a different text
One run applies one text to every file you add. For copies addressed to different people, such as "For the landlord only" and "For the bank only", run the tool once per recipient and rename the files so they do not get mixed up.
Diagonal or horizontal watermark
Diagonal crosses most of the page and is harder to cut out by cropping or covering one strip. It is the usual choice for ID copies and documents shared with strangers.
Horizontal is easier to read and feels calmer. It suits short labels like DRAFT or SAMPLE on documents that people need to read comfortably, such as a draft report sent to colleagues.
Questions
Can the watermark be removed later?
It is added as page content. Someone with editing software could remove it, so for strong protection combine it with a flattened copy or a scan.
Can I use accented characters?
Yes. The watermark uses a font that covers Polish, German, French, Czech and most other European letters, so ł, ś or ü appear exactly as typed.
Can I add a watermark to only some pages?
The tool marks every page of each file. To mark only part of a document, split it with Split PDF, watermark the pages you need, then put the parts back together with Merge PDF.
Can I use a logo or image as a watermark?
Not at the moment. The watermark is text only. A company name in capital letters at low opacity often does the same job as a logo.
Will the watermark appear when someone copies text from the PDF?
It can. The watermark is added as real text, so selecting a whole page and copying it may include the watermark words along with the content.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. The tool runs in your browser and the files never leave your device. Close the tab and nothing is left behind.
