Choose how to cut the document. "Every N pages" is handy for turning a scan of many forms into one file per form. "Custom ranges" lets you type something like 1-3, 4-10, 11 and get exactly those three files. More than one result is packed into a ZIP.

How to split a PDF into separate files on your own device
Split PDF reads your document in the browser and builds a new, smaller PDF for each part you ask for. Pages are copied straight across, so a part looks exactly like the same pages in the original. No page is printed to an image, and nothing is sent anywhere, which matters when the file is a bank statement or a set of patient forms.
There are two ways to cut. "Every N pages" walks through the document in equal steps: with 2 you get pages 1-2, 3-4, 5-6 and so on, and the last file simply holds whatever is left. "Custom ranges" gives you one file per range you type, so 1-4, 5-12, 13- produces three files. The name of each file tells you which pages it holds, for example report_pages_5-12.pdf.
When the result is more than one file, you can download them one at a time from the list or grab everything as a single ZIP. Your original PDF stays as it was.
Problems people run into when splitting a PDF
The file is too large for an upload form, and compressing is not an option
Some portals cap each file at a few megabytes but accept several files. If the document must stay sharp, split it instead of compressing it. Use "Every N pages" and lower N until each part fits under the limit, then upload the parts in order.
Each part is almost as big as the whole file
Fonts and images that several pages share have to be stored in every part that uses them. A 40-page report with one heavy logo on every page will carry that logo in every piece. If size is the goal, run the parts through Compress PDF afterwards.
You wanted pages 2 and 7 together, but got two files
In "Custom ranges" every comma starts a new file. Split always produces separate documents. To collect scattered pages into one PDF, use Extract PDF Pages and type 2, 7 there.
The ranges field shows an error
Only numbers, hyphens and commas are understood. Words like "page 3" or a range written with "to" will not work. Write 3, 5-8, 10- and check that the numbers are within the page count shown next to the file.
Every N pages or custom ranges?
Pick "Every N pages" when the document is a stack of things that all have the same length: twelve two-page forms, a batch of one-page receipts, weekly timesheets.
Pick "Custom ranges" when the parts are different lengths, like chapters of a thesis or the separate documents inside one long scan. Look through the PDF first and write down where each part starts.
Questions
Can I split every page into its own PDF?
Yes. Leave the mode on "Every N pages" with the value 1.
Is the original file changed?
No. You download new files and the original stays exactly as it was.
How do I split a scanned PDF into separate documents?
Open the scan in any viewer and note the first page of each document. Then choose "Custom ranges" and type them, for example 1-3, 4, 5-9. Each range becomes its own PDF.
Can I split a PDF on my phone?
Yes. The tool runs in mobile Safari and Chrome. On an iPhone the ZIP lands in the Files app, and tapping it there unpacks the PDFs into a folder.
Can the same page go into two parts?
Yes. Ranges may overlap, so 1-5, 5-10 puts page 5 into both files. That is handy when a cover page or summary should appear in every part.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. The tool runs in your browser and the files never leave your device. Close the tab and nothing is left behind.
